Where did it all begin?
The family marine business started in Manchester in 1988 by ex-FI Powerboat Racing driver Jeff Edwards, initially retailing small sportsboats and outboard engines. In 1990 SQM became one of the first Sea.Doo watercraft dealers in the U.K, and soon became the largest of a growing network of dealers. However, with the watercraft market starting to boom SQM turned to direct importing of watercraft, as the only way of satisfying demand and to also offer choice and value. Soon it proved that this was the only way in which SQM could also provide unrivalled product support. After 15 years of providing choice, value and unrivalled product support, it is easy to see why SQM is the one of the U.K’s longest established suppliers of watercraft.

In 1999 to meet the growing market for premium sportsboats, SQM became an international Cobalt Boat dealer. Cobalt's 'compromise nothing' approach to building the finest boat on the water has earned it the JD Power award every year since its inception. For a marine sales company it is an honour to sell Cobalt Boats, and we always seek to adopt Cobalt's award-winning 'compromise nothing' ethic to all aspects of our own business. In 2002 SQM was awarded Top International Sales Dealer for Cobalt Boats, and it has become our aim each year to regain this award.

For 2005 SQM has been appointed as a Mercury Outboard dealer. Our association with Mercury is strong & deep. Jeff Edwards raced for the all conquering Team Mercury FI powerboat team between 1966 & 1976. During this time Mercury developed their first V-6 outboards with feed back from their F1 powerboat team. It is fair to say that SQM Marine Sales has decades of experience behind the Mercury brand. Today, the 2005 Mercury Verado range of outboards represents the pinnacle of marine engine design.

While SQM has always been a national supplier of watercraft & powerboats, to build upon our success further, SQM has expanded into North Wales – the U.K’s fastest growing boating area. At SQM our success has been built upon supplying The Best Products at the Best Prices, and through expansion this will continue but nationwide. The expansion will also ensure that all our products have nationwide support. As part of the expansion SQM has been re-branded to SQM Marine Sales. The business is still controlled by the Edwards family, and the re-branding was necessary to reflect that SQM supplies a wide range of marine products and services, nationally.
